Airport scanners can see detailed images of your luggage contents such as metallic and non metallic objects, but also organic materials. How does it work?
Even though the technology behind scanners it is very complex, the process of scanning your body and suitcase is quite simple. Once the luggage is inside, the scanner releases X-rays that pass through the bag, being able to calculate the mass and density of the contents.
In spite of the fact that the scanners can see the density and mass of everything that you have packed, they are not always able to establish what the objects are. In this case, if your luggage contains objects that arouse any suspicions then, the security will take a look through the bag. To avoid this, it is important to check the rules and regulations of your airline flight.
Can airport scanners detect drugs?
Technically, airport security scanners do not detect drugs but they can provide visual clues of drugs hidden under the clothes and in baggage. Even if the scanners cannot determine the exact composition, they can tell if an object is organic or metallic or how low or high density an object have. The organic materials such as drugs, food, explosives or paper are marked with orange color.
Passengers who are suspected of swallowing drugs, are scanned with a full body X-ray machine, that can detect if the person’s stomach contains packages.
Can airport scanners see pills?
Even if the pills are contained in plastic, non metallic or metallic bottles, the answer is yes. The airport scanners have no problems finding the pills that you are travelling with, liquid form or not. In case of travelling with pills in liquid form, in your carry-on baggage, they must not exceed 3.4 ounces/100ml.
Can money appear in airport baggage scanner?
A good X-ray scanner will always detect money. Airport scanners can detect even the smallest amount of metal and can detect paper. The scanners will always look after things that look different to the norm. In this case, if the currency is arranged in bundles, it will be more easily detected.
Lastly, the airport scanners can detect anything that it is not part of the human anatomy and spot things concealed under clothes and layers.
